Karen leaves behind to mourn her husband of 47 years, Lorne Hugh her one and only child Megann Hughena (Andrew Conrad) and her two beloved grandchildren Drew Lorne and Lily Diane Karen - “Nana’s sugar plums.” She was predeceased by her mother Margaret Irene Murphy in 1994. She was choir director with her parish for 30-plus years. Karen had the most angelic voice and was always eager to share her talents, which included singing, playing guitar, piano, and the bagpipes. Karen was a member of the Bonnie Brae Pipes and Drums and was chosen to play in the Rose Bowl Parade in 1976. Her love of all things Celtic is evidenced in her love of the bagpipes. Drew and Lily will forever remember those times. A highlight of her life was taking her two grandchildren along camping for sometimes weeks at a time. She spent many summers at her and Lorne’s camper at Lake Ainslie. The last 15 years she enjoyed her retirement. Karen was a dedicated worker for Capital Health at the VG Bethune building, teaching medical staff I.T. Mary’s University attaining her Master’s in Education. Francis Xavier University attaining a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education. She graduated from Inverness Consolidated School in 1972. With her parents and younger sister, they moved to Dunvegan in 1959. Karen was born on July 7th, 1955, at New Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. We all know she is in a beautiful place singing for all of heaven to hear.
